There are rumors swirling that Marc Trestman will become NC State Wolpack's next offensive coordiantor. Trestman has over 15 years experience in the NFL. The highlight of his career was as offensive coordiantor for the Raiders during thier stint at the #1 offense in the NFL including the top passing attack and thier super bowl season. During his time with the Raiders, the journeyman QB Rich Gannon won NFL MVP honors. Another interesting fact was that he coached for Bernie Kosar in both college and the NFL.

Toney Baker decides to run with the Pack! |
|
Written by DeWees
|
|
Saturday, 15 January 2005 |
Toney Baker (5'10 220lb RB) of Ragsdale Highschool in
Jamestown, NC made his committment public today to the NC State
Wolfpack during the Army All American Game. Toney Baker is rated as a 5
star running back by both Rivals.com(#15 overall) and Scout.com(#22
overall) recruiting services. This season Toney Baker broke TA's North
Carolina highschool career North Carolina high school rushing record.
His career 10,231 rushing yards also puts him at #2 all time in the
nation. Toney Baker should immediately challenge Darrell Blackman for
the starting running back position. Toney will wear the #22 next season
for the Pack. This is a huge committ for the NC State and he wil be the
star of the recruiting class.
Quote: Greensboro News-Record.com
"He felt really comfortable with State," Baker's best
friend, Ernest Simmons III said. "He really liked the atmosphere and he
really liked the coaching staff. The players treated him right, too." Quote: Winston Salem journalnow.com
"I've really not had a lot to do with it," Norwood said.
"Toney has made most of the decisions with his recruiting. I think he
just felt comfortable being close to home and he felt comfortable at
N.C. State."
Quote: FoxSports.com
Derek Nicholson crushed Toney Baker on an off-tackle play. Baker spun away and broke a long run down the left sideline.

Ken Hall, the fabled "The Sugar Land Express,"
congratulated North Carolina prep standout Toney Baker on a remarkable
run that ended less than 1,000 yards rushing from Hall's national
standard of 11,232. "That's a record that
should never be broken," said Baker, who will play for the East in
Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodome. "Eleven
thousand yards, that's just ridiculous. For him to do what he did and
be so humble about it, he deserves to keep it."
Said Hall: "Just the thought that he'd say something like that, it's
kind of incredible. That makes me admire the kid even more for what
he's done. The important thing was, he meant every word of it."
"I just hope he tears the world apart." |

Jan 15th Wolfpack Football Weekend Preview |
|
Written by DeWees
|
|
Saturday, 15 January 2005 |
There is alot of Wolfpack action going on this weekend. First the NFL playoffs feature several former NC State Football Players. The first playoff game on Saturday at 4:30 on CBS has the Pittsburg Steelers facing the New York Jets. Last week, Jerricho Cotchery had three kickoff returns for 66 yards and no catches. Expect to see JCo returning kickoffs and as the third wide reciever. The Steelers have no former NC State players on the field by are lead by Bill Cowher, one of the all time great Wolfpack linebackers. Bill Cowher still owns quite a few defensive records.
Next up is Torry Holt and the Rams versus Vick and the Atlanta Falcons saturday at 8pm on Fox. Torry "Big Game" Holt came up HUGE in the wildcard weekend with 6 catches for 108 yards and 1 TDs. The Falcons won the only regular season matchup of the two teams. The Sunday early game (1pm) on FOX matches the Minnesota Vikings against the TO'less Philidelphia Eagles. Brian Williams had 7 tackles and an interception last week. Sean Berton continues to start at H-back for the Viks.
From NFLers to a couple of potential NFL draftees, NC State's Andre Maddox and Pat Thomas will be playing in the East-West Shrine Game on Saturday at 2pm on ESPN. Both Maddox and Thomas are potential NFL prospects and will be looking to increase thier stock.
Finally, the Army All-American Game will hopefully be a look into the future of NC State's running game. Toney Baker will be the starting running back for the East Squad and plans to make his committment on live TV during the 3rd of 4th quarter. Toney's three leaders are NC State, UVa and UT. This game will be televised by NBC at 1pm. Hopefully, Toney decides to run with the Pack. |
